Early Childhood (Ages 2-5)

Where the joy and curiosity of learning begins!

Children's earliest experiences of learning lay the foundations, not only for later learning in school, but also for their self-confidence and belief in themselves as learners for their whole lives.

INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM

ISG offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in Early Years and Elementary school for students from age 2 to 10.  The PYP is designed to ensure rigorous learning but also to help teachers make all learning exciting, active and meaningful for children. Learning with the PYP takes a global approach; helping children to connect their learning to where they are living now as well as looking at the learning from the perspective of other people in other countries.

LEARNING APPROACH

The Early Childhood programme at the International School in Genoa enables young learners to participate in an international curriculum, through developmentally appropriate activities, promoting positive self-esteem and allowing children to progress according to their individual needs and growth path.

As the early childhood programme is offered to students from different backgrounds, openness to different cultures is a very important factor in a child’s growth. Learning to work and play together is a primary goal in the early years.

Children who do not speak English or who are beginning to speak English are immersed in an environment rich in linguistic and pedagogical stimuli. From a linguistic point of view, the teachers’ work focuses on the acquisition of the necessary basic structures, vocabulary and listening and speaking skills.

TEACHING STAFF

Each class is assigned to an English mother tongue level certified homeroom teacher, supported by a bilingual assistant. The homeroom teacher supports the child’s journey  in his/her Language, Academic and social development. Other specialist teachers offer experiences and activities in subjects such as Art, Music, Physical Education, Drama and Italian

We believe that the best way to present our school is from the words of our teachers and community members.

CLASS GROUPS

Classes are organized into three main age groups:

  • Reception (Age 2)
  • Pre-School  (Age 3)
  • Pre-Kindergarten  (Age 4)
  • Kindergarten   (Age 5)

The students’ placement is generally based on the year of birth of the child. It takes into consideration the physical, social and emotional growth of the child.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

Play is a fundamental part of child development and is considered a crucial aspect of Early Years Education.  Children develop important skills such as imagination, communication and problem solving through play.

The outdoor learning environment is a wonderful area for promoting and encouraging play based learning.

DIGITAL LEARNING PLATFORM

Parents are involved in the children’s ECE learning experience in many different ways. Teachers have daily contact with parents at the children’s arrival and dismissal time. In addition, teachers share with parents daily contents through the educational online platform called Seesaw. Children are encouraged to play online and participate in activities when they cannot attend school by uploading contents with the support of their parents.
